Paroc, one of Europe's leading manufacturers of non-combustible sandwich panels, supplied the panels for the award-winning Skandion Clinic and Hotel von Kraemer in Uppsala. At the metal sheeting industry event PLÅT15 on 18-19 March, the architect office Link Arkitektur was awarded the PLÅTPRISET award for its work.

The PLÅTPRISET prize is awarded to a Swedish architect office which during the course of the year has delivered a project which utilizes and maximises the potential offered by metal facades in terms of form, function, innovation and environment. This year the award went to LINK Arkitektur for the Skandion Clinic and Hotell von Kræmer in Uppsala. The Skandion Clinic is the first cancer clinic in the Nordic region to offer proton therapy, a treatment that is both difficult and technologically complex.

The jury was impressed by the airy, light and bright facade, which also meets high safety standards.

“Behind the aluminium sheeting with perforated pattern lies the hotel facade's actual climate protection, which is a Paroc facade,” said Carl-Fredrik Danielsson, Architect at Link Arkitektur.

“The Paroc panels' thin outer layer of steel also holds up the cantilevered aluminium facade. This made our job easier since we did not have to include supplementary stud systems in our drawings to bear the load of the cantilevered aluminium sheets,” said Carl-Fredrik.

“We are very proud to have been entrusted with supplying our product to such a prestigious project as the Skandion Clinic,” said Mikael Vestermark, Regional Director of Paroc Panelsystem. Paroc Built-on sandwich panels were the perfect solution for the Skandion Clinic because they involve a lightweight construction with very high tensile strength, which provides a good base for the perforated aluminium cassette facade. “Thanks to their smooth surface, Paroc's sandwich panels are able to secure and hold cladding of up to 45 kilos per square metre, and because they are non-combustible, the building has very good passive fire protection, which seems particularly appropriate in this case,” added Mikael.
