Smoke and exhaust pipes are often exposed to very high temperatures and therefore demand non-combustible insulation with high compression strength. The insulation must maintain its properties, even at high temperatures.

Exhaust pipes

Generators are used as stand-by supply systems – for example, in hospitals – to secure the power supply during power cuts. The exhaust pipes of the motor running the generator produce high temperature exhaust gases. You must pay attention to fire safety first when you choose the insulation material for exhaust pipes. Make sure the insulation has good compression strength and keeps its form, even at high temperatures.

Determine the insulation thickness according to the allowed maximum surface temperature with Paroc’s calculation program PAROC Calculus.

Steel chimneys

Chimneys are one of the most challenging constructions in a building when it comes to fire protection. Paroc advises you to use manufactured chimneys as they have insulation already installed and they are tested according to relevant test methods and approved by local fire authorities. PAROC products are used by many steel chimney manufacturers.

PAROC products provide excellent thermal insulation for pipes and act as fire protection for the whole of a building.

Insulation prolongs the service life of the pipes by preventing the flue gases from cooling to the point where they would condense and leave corrosive deposits on the inner surface of the pipe.

Requirements and solutions for smoke and exhaust pipes vary from country to country. Please check with your local Paroc representative if these products are suitable for your country.
