Fire protection may not be the first thing you think of when planning a sustainable property portfolio. But surely energy efficiency is on your checklist?

Let fire protection be more than an afterthought in brackets or a point far down your list. We reiterate: with the right choice of materials, you can achieve a big difference.
When there is a fire, the structure of your suspended ceiling forms a protective barrier against heat and hot gases. This prevents the heating and ignition of structures and installations located above the suspended ceiling. It is therefore important that it is installed so that it maintains both its load-bearing capacity and fire resistance when exposed to heat.

Paroc can offer fire-resistant ceiling solutions with PARAFON acoustic panels in combination with tempered grid systems.

The ceiling will maintain its shape and not contribute to flashover in the event of a fire. Tempering the grid system means that profiles can press together, allowing for the expansion that takes place in the material as it is heated during a fire. In this way, the grid system stays flat and intact along with the non-combustible ceiling panels made of mineral wool. This combination helps prevent flashover and the spreading of both fire and hot gases.

This is particularly important to consider in buildings and spaces with a high protection value. And of course also in all types of escape routes where the spread and duration of a fire can mean the difference between life and death.

In 2014 Paroc completed a survey of almost 400 firefighters to find out what they think the most important measure for improving fire safety is. They highlighted an improvement
of the structure’s fire barriers and increased use of non-combustible building materials. 93 per cent of the firefighters surveyed would choose mineral wool as an insulation material.
