Passive house in Vantaa, Finland

The wall construction is based on PreWIS (Prefabricated Wall Insulation System with PAROC FAL 1 thin rendering lamella) and a total wall thickness is 510 mm. On the positive side, the wall construction provides broad window sills, which are very much appreciated by the residents.

For roof insulation, PAROC eXtra slabs and PAROC blowing wool with a thickness 600 mm were used. Proper insulation thickness and material also works as sound insulation in an area where noise from airplanes may cause disturbance.

Paroc created the passive house concept with VTT, and this Paroc Passive House is one of the pilot buildings. VTT measures and analyses the energy consumption, and the indoor climate is also monitored.

So far, the residents and researchers at VTT have been satisfied with the living comfort and energy consumption in the PAROC® stone wool insulated home.

Paroc Passive house was first passive house in Finland. It broke many myths about passive houses; for example, all passive houses have small windows and look like boxes. There was no need to give up on the wish to have a dream house, even if its energy need and consumption are at a passive house level. Also, the architecture of the house proves that passive houses cannot be recognised from outside.
