Gruvön cardboard factory, Grums, Sweden

On 12 December 2016, BillerudKorsnäs’ board made a decision on the biggest investment for the future in the company's history, and one of the biggest in Sweden in recent years. The investment is valued at SEK 7.6 billion. The investment was made on the basis of the growing demand for sustainable packaging solutions for food and beverages around the world. This factory is the first of its kind in the world and will use smart packaging solutions to reduce dependence on fossil fuels, environmental impact and littering, while also increasing food safety.

Bilfinger Industrial Services has been responsible for much of the technical insulation. They have chosen to use several of Paroc’s products since these have properties suitable for industrial environments.

“We have chosen pipe sections, wired mats and grooved slabs from Paroc for the project. This is because of the products’ properties and price,” says Morgan Vestlund at Bilfinger Industrial Services.

Products used:
PAROC HVAC Pipe Sections
PAROC Pro Wired Mats

The cardboard machine, ordered from German company Voith Paper under the name KM 7, is 350 metres long, eight metres wide and weighs 17,000 tonnes. The maximum capacity of 550,000 tonnes per year is equivalent to 100 million one-litre milk cartons a day.

Production is expected to start in 2019.
