In the housing area Brogården, in Alingsås, Swedish contractor Skanska has, in co-operation with the housing company Alingsåshem, renovated a number of block flats to passive house standards. The houses were built during the 1960's and 1970's. During that period, a large number of houses were built, called the Million-program, and most of these are in need of renovation.
Brogården consists of 16 buildings with a total living area of 1,056 m². The houses are built as lamella houses with a concrete frame. After the renovations, the houses are very well insulated, have a tight climate shell and heat exchangers for ventilation. The water is heated in some houses using solar panels and in some houses by district heating.
