Owens Corning Paroc launches ambitious sustainability goals

27 Oct 2020

Stone wool insulation manufacturer Paroc is committed to designing and offering new low carbon products and cut CO2 emissions in half by 2030.
Stone wool insulation manufacturer Paroc, part of the Fortune 500 and Dow Jones Sustainability Index company Owens Corning, has launched a new sustainability strategy and goals for the near future. These ambitious goals, that are in line with the sustainability goals of Owens Corning, include doubling the positive impact of Paroc’s products and halving the negative impact of Paroc’s operations.

In practice it means that Paroc’s aspiration is to reduce CO2 emissions by 50%, reduce the use of plastics by 30% and close the loop with zero waste leaving the plants by 2030.

To reach the goals, Paroc will also expand the use of Rewool customer waste recycling solution and develop and offer new low carbon products. One concrete example of this work is the launch of the new carbon neutral product line Paroc Natura in the beginning of 2021.

“Paroc is in the business of energy efficiency. For each tonne of CO2 generated in the manufacturing of stone wool, about 200 tonnes of CO2 is saved by stone wool’s thermal insulation properties over a 50-year period. That does not mean we are content. We want to turn every stone to find new ways to make our general footprint as small as possible”, says Beatrice Hallén, Sustainability Leader for Owens Corning Insulation Europe.

To be able to better communicate sustainability goals and actions, Paroc opened a subpage dedicated to sustainability on it’s webpage this October. Also, a manifest was formulated to summarize the sustainability goals and actions.

“We want to be forerunners in developing sustainable buildings together with our customers. We also want to design our products and solutions for recycling and reuse. For us, sustainability is about meeting the needs of the present while leaving the world a better place for the future”, says Beatrice Hallén.
