Below you can find some examples of effective thin rendering solutions made with slab insulation, insulation lamellas and with panel technology. Below the standard structures you can find solutions for passive houses.

 

A) Rendered facade with slab insulation

Slab insulation is the classic insulation solution in thin rendered applications, both in new buildings and renovations. Slab insulation is particularly recommended in the following cases:

  • The surface of the supporting wall structure is uneven.
  • Special noise reduction is required
  • The supporting wall structure is made of  timber

 When insulation thickness is higher than 200 mm, we recommend a stone wool lamella insulation solution. It is also possible to make thicker slab insulation by using two or more layers. The advantage of the slab solution is overlapping seams and lack of cold bridges.

Fasten the stone wool insulation slabs to the supporting wall structure with adhesive and mechanical fasteners. If there is more than one layer of installation, mechanical fasteners are always required. Follow the system owner's special instructions!

B) Rendered facade with lamella insulation

The thin rendering solution is the most common thermal rendering system in Europe, both in new buildings and renovations. Lamella insulation is particularly recommended when:
  • It requires no mechanical fasteners. (Check the system owners instructions!) The lamellas are glued to the supporting wall with adhesive mortar.
  • It is fast and easy to install.
  • It provides an even foundation for the rendering due to the sawed surface.
Lamella insulation is especially recommended for walls with high insulation thickness. The lamellas have very high tensile strength, making them suitable for situations where high mechanical strength is required, such as high rise buildings. PAROC stone wool is durable and retains its form during temperature fluctuation.

To reduce the installation time significantly with this solution, use one-side coated PAROC Linio 80c or PAROC Linio 80cc. This is possible because most system owners allow mortar to be sprayed directly to the supporting wall when the surface of the lamella is coated.
 
 

Passive houses

PAROC stone wool lamella insulation is an excellent choice for passive houses because it requires no mechanical fasteners. (Please check the system owner’s instructions!) The lamellas are glued to the supporting wall by adhesive mortar.

Rendered facades can also be used for timber frame constructions. This solution combines the fast timber frame building technique with the architectural image of stone walls.

With the innovative double timber frame below, the structure practically eliminates cold bridges and reduces the overall wall thickness. The un-framed insulation layer at the middle of this structure can vary in thickness, making this solution suitable for various U value requirements. Additional internal studding inside the vapour barrier is essential. Take care not to break the vapour barrier when installing electricity and water pipes to the studding.
