Careful dimensioning and installation of the thermal insulation in walls is paramount to the service life of flue gas cleaning equipment in boiler plants. In various application conditions, the insulation prevents the interior surface from cooling below the acid dew point, thereby preventing the formation of corrosive acid on the wall surface. A condition for this is that no cold areas appear on the wall.
The application properties of insulations for desulphurisation equipment and electrical filters include:
• Good thermal insulating capacity within the temperature range for flue gases.
• Installation properties that enable tight insulations without cold bridges for extensive level surfaces.
• Compression strength for roof structures.
• Suitability for multilayer insulation applications.
• Good moisture repellence.
• Low air permeability values preventing the weather influencing the insulating capacity.
Structurally critical areas include the wall reinforcement structures, various adhesive surfaces and manholes. It is, however, possible to prevent damage by careful insulation work with overlapping insulation seams.
