FAQ
Massive timber wall, add. insulation on interior side

Log is a good and durable building material, but requires a stone wool layer in order to obtain adequate thermal economy. A correctly installed additional insulation helps eliminate draught in old log houses and save energy costs. At the same time also the fire safety of the house is significantly upgraded.

Work description:
a. Strip off any old internal facing and vapour barrier. Seal big gaps and cracks.
b. Fix new studs by nailing at cc 600 mm, at the same time align the wall.
c. Install insulation slab between the studs completely filling the space to be insulated.
d. Fix the vapour and air barriers with a minimum 100 mm overlap.
Seal seams by tape and seal joints against ceiling and adjacent walls.
e. Install internal facing, for instance using boards or panelling.

NOTE! Old surface-installed electrical wiring and sockets must not be left inside the insulation. Electrical installations are always to be made by skilled workers. Water and heating pipe-work should preferably be reinstalled inside entirely away from wall structures.
