First an evaluation of the old wall and a structural design for the new wall need to be done. Then the insulation system (bonded or mechanically fixed) has to be chosen.

If the cladding of the old wall is in bad condition it has to be completely stripped off. Any unevenness in the old interior envelope has to be evened out using filling mortar. In other respects the insulation and the rendering on top of it are made as in new buildings.
