In timber frame structures stone wool is used as a thermal, fire and sound insulation. Surface materials such as plaster board function as an airtight layer preventing combustion gases from going through the construction in case of fire. The amount of layers of plaster board is also affecting the fire resistance ability of the structure.
When PAROC stone wool is used in the attic the fire resistance is increasing and some of the plaster boards can even be left out to reach the same fire classification. The most commonly used product in these constructions is PAROC eXtra or BLT.

According to Knauf certificate (VTT-C-2947-08) a roof construction with 150mm PAROC eXtra and 2*Knauf KN13 plaster board in the ceiling will reach fire classification REI60. |
