| Paroc insulation products are intended to be used in dry conditions. Stone fiber is non-hygroscopic and the moisture content of the insulation in normal service conditions remains below 0, 5 % in weight.
During the building and installation process water is often present. To guarantee the proper functioning of the insulation, Paroc products are treated with water repellent agent. This allows the products to be used in normal weather conditions with an exposure to rain.
The use of vapour/air barrier is recommended
The basic principle is that a construction contains a vapour barrier, or mostly more correctly an air barrier. This prevents air from leaking into the insulation, and prevents the diffusion of moisture into the construction. Because of their open texture, all stone wool products have high vapour permeability. This means that moisture can be transported efficiently through the material in all directions.
Paroc recommends the use of a vapour barrier/air barrier in most constructions. In a construction towards the ground, like a cellar wall, it maybe is more harmful to place a barrier in the construction. So look in to the Paroc recommendations for every single type of solution.
The commonest method is to use age-resistant 0.2 mm polythene sheet with overlapping joints. This can be placed anywhere within the bottom third of the insulation thickness. |
