A typical residential fire originates from food that has been left on the stove or has otherwise caught alight. The flames immediately climb up the grease extractor duct. If the duct has not been insulated against fire in the loft space, the fire will spread to the loft with devastating consequences. The duct of the local exhaust system must be insulated in the loft space and in the loft cavity. In practice this means a 50 mm stone wool metal mesh blanket – PAROC Wired Mat 80 (80 VM) or Wired Mat 100 (VM 100).
If a thicker insulation layer is required in order to prevent condensation, another stone wool product can be attached on top of the metal mesh blanket.
