The European Union REACH Regulation in brief

The REACH Regulation (EC) No 1907/2006 (Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals) has entered into force as of the 1st of June 2007. As a consequence, companies including Paroc need to take actions to ensure that its activities are in compliance with the Regulation in order to secure future supply of its products to the customers.

The REACH Regulation applies to substances as such, substances in preparations and substances in articles, their manufacture, their import into the European Union and European Economic Area, their use, distribution and placing on the EU/EEA-market.

Without a proper registration, a substance cannot be manufactured within or imported into the EU and EEA, nor placed on the market.

Transitional phase-in periods are implemented under the REACH Regulation in order to perform comprehensive registration tasks. Depending on substance volumes and certain health and environmental criterions for the substance, these transitional phase-in periods range from 3.5, 6 and 11 years, corresponding to the registration deadlines of 1st of December 2010, 1st of June 2013 and 1st of June 2018.

To be able to benefit from these transitional phase-in periods, manufacturers and importers have had to pre-register its substances between 1st of June and 1st of December 2008.

Manufacturers, Importers, Downstream users and Distributors of chemicals within the European Union and the European Economic Area will have to fulfil REACH related requirements in order to be in compliance with the Regulation.
